Tel: 020 8994 9527 or 07762 085840

Learn how the technique can help you restore balance and coordination, improve poise, suppleness and mobility, gain control to reduce stress and pain and generally improve health vitality and awareness.

How does the Alexander Technique help?
During our lifetime we develop physical habits which interfere with our natural easy movement. This can lead aches and pains, stiffness of joints, headaches etc. Alexander lessons help you to rediscover the natural poise of the body which we can see in young children. This often brings with it a sense of general well being.

"In this work is exactly what is being done in Nature where the conditions are right, the difference being that we are learning to do it consciously" FM Alexander

What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a psychophysical re-education of the postural mechanism. Lessons are one-to-one. The teacher uses his/her hands to guide the pupil to improve the quality and ease of movement.

Who should have lessons?
People take lessons for many reasons:

* People suffering from bad back, neck/joint problems, people suffering from headaches, voice and breathing problems, RSI and stress or posture related disorders. Elizabeth is a Trustee of the Charity BackCare (previously known as the National BackCare Association)

* Actors and Musicians and others to whom the quality of movement is important in their profession. It is taught in most good music and drama schools.

* People who enjoy sports and who wish to prevent injury and improve performance.
Elizabeth is a teacher who is particularly interested in working with sports enthusiasts. She has had success in helping people with their running, swimming and skiing. She organizes regular Running workshops in Chiswick, London

(She is a level 2 canoe coach, Trampoline coach, past dance teacher and has a 2nd DAN Black belt in Shotokan Karate. She is a member of the Chiswick Tennis and Canoe Clubs)

* Many people take lessons simply to rediscover a feeling of lightness and ease in everyday movements.

Sun 20 May  Learn To Run With Ease Course May 2012
Running Workshop London

2.30-6.00pm

Learn to run efficiently, effectively and enjoyably at a Malcolm Balk's ART OF RUNNING workshop, London!

We all think we know how to run. After all, it's as natural as putting one foot in front of the other. Too often, though, an activity which should be enjoyable and fulfilling instead leads to frustration and injury.

'Art of Running' workshops are based on the proven principles of the Alexander Technique, which encourage good use of the body and greater awareness of the way it functions, and the Posetech Method, developed by leading Russian coach Nicholas Romanov. We teach Mid-foot running which is the way that we would run if we were barefoot.

Malcolm Balk is a Level 4 athletics coach, certified Posetech Method Instructor and a world expert on Alexander Technique and running. He shows how to achieve and maintain fitness without injury and overcome self-imposed limitations to successful running..

These practical workshops are ideal for runners of all ages and levels of fitness and experience. Video analysis used for 'before and after' study.

Co-Tutor Elizabeth Dodgson is an Alexander Technique Teacher based in Chiswick and can offer follow-up sessions or individual Alexander/running technique lessons. If you would like to book a `Learn to Run With Ease` course or want more information about individual lessons email Elizabeth on Elizabeth@ATteacher.co.uk or ring 020 8994 9527

The teaching venue, Chiswick Pier House has easy and adequate parking and can be accessed by the E3 or 190 bus routes or a 15 minute walk from Chiswick train station or Turnham Green Tube

'Master The Art of Running', by Malcolm Balk and Andrew Shields, is published by Collins and Brown
